Son the Blogman here, with some big news – Misa Giroux, co-founder of Redleg Husky and songwriter, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire, is leaving the band. Please read her letter to all of you, and then read on to find out more about what Tim and I have in store for your ears:
I moved to North Carolina four years ago searching for a lot of things, but never expected to find the perfect musical partner and a life so filled with adventure. Tim and I started playing music together the day we met and started Redleg Husky just a few weeks later, I think. I grew through the songs we performed together in so many ways: they helped me feel at home, bond with new friends, and mend a broken heart. Eventually we were able to tour the country for three months by playing shows, exploring places I’d never even dreamed of getting to see. We’ve played so many more shows since then, creating a full-time career out of something we started in my Boone apartment, probably after class, over beers and records. Our cross-country trip also brought us the wonderful Son, who seamlessly fit into our crazy world. We’ve been a family, spending so much of our time together, and I wouldn’t change what we’ve experienced for anything.
I’ve come to realize, though, that I want a life different from what the road can offer and have other passions I want to pursue. In September, I’ll be moving back to New England, but Tim and Son will continue to fight the good fight as a duo. I want the absolute best for them and remain the biggest RLH fan, and I look forward to seeing how they continue to grow. Please keep supporting them at shows - and keep ‘em in line for me. They’re the best musicians I know, and the best bandmates and friends a girl could ask for. I love them with all of my Husky heart. Thank you to everyone who has come out to a show, let me crash on their couch, or just supported me in any way. I’ll never forget it.
My final band show will be Sept. 8th at the Town Pump in Black Mountain, one of my favorite venues to play. There will be cowboy boots, at least one yellin’ and stompin’ Lucinda Williams cover, and all the feelings. We’re gonna have a great time and you will, too! Come on out and celebrate this new chapter with us!
Ready for new adventures
So there it is, everyone. Personally, I'm trying to hold off on feeling the sadness of losing a bandmate and roommate until she actually moves out at the end of next month, so for now, here are a few words on the positive side of Redleg Husky's future.
As of last week, Tim and I are carrying the RLH torch as a duo. He's continuing in his role as guitar phenom, banjoman, vocalist, and USDA ceritfied 100% American heartthrob, while I hold down my patented one man rhythm section bass technique and also step up my share of lead and backing vocal responsibilities. From time to time, you might see a guitar in my hands as well.
We're excited to be intensifying our practice schedule to both re-vamp some classic Redleg tunes and introduce a wealth of new ones, focusing more and more on classic country, bluegrass, and blues songs, all arranged with the dedication and performed with the energy that you all have come to know and love over the four years of this band's existence. Our drive and vision haven't changed – we want to be the hardest working roots band in North Carolina, and to travel as much of the country as we can, sharing our passion for heartfelt, old school American music with everyone we meet.
On that note, I'd like to close this post with a look at our upcoming shows. In our sights, we've got trips to Winston-Salem and Raleigh, to Virginia, and, for the very first time, to Maryland, in October. Those dates are outlined below. For those of you local to the North Carolina mountains, we have our first ever show at The Grey Eagle this Thursday, August 18th. It's a chance for you all to hear our new sound and to come celebrate our breakthrough into one of our favorite hometown venues. We hope to see you there and at Misa's last show on September 8th, and at many other shows down the road in the months and years to come.
Looking forward to a whole lot more music together
